Confessions of an Evil Sewing Machine

Second Engagement

So, most of you know that I've been engaged for over two years now. When Brandt and I first got engaged, he couldn't afford a diamond for me so he bought me a cubic zirconia and promised that when he could afford a diamond, he'd get me one. So, recently, that happened!

I thought I'd share the story with you- since so many people have asked me already. So here's the story of the first engagement:

(This is not totally copied and pasted from something I wrote years ago :D)

"What better way to start an evening than with a super hot curry and awesome romantic evening out at dinner? Dressed in our typical fancy smancy dresses and top hats regime, we headed out to a really nice seafood restaurant where we stuffed our faces and indulged in some wine... Mmmmmmmm, wiiiine....

Following our delicious dinner, we wondered over to "our" place. This being, the place where we first made our relationship final and had our first kiss. Let me elaborate...
We met through a mutual friend. It all began with hurricanes of insults and wonderfully witty conversations, and resulted in a secret under-the-table hand holding the following night at our local hang out, Stokers. Sadly, 2 days later he flew back to his current residence, Cape Town :( We kept in contact, of course. Spending stacks of airtime on each other, just talking absolute crap for hours on the phone. Needless to say, we fell in love. And in all honesty, after a week I knew that he was the guy for me, no doubt about it. 2 weeks passed and I found him back on my doorstep, a flight had been taken and he had come all the way back just to be with me once more. We all headed to Stokers, as we tend to do, and as soon as he arrived we ran (literally, RAN) behind a train where he swept me up in his arms and kissed me in the most wonderful and passionate way, before he held my hand and asked me to be his. We sat for hours on the train after that, holding each other and kissing and just talking crap like we so often do. And that was the beginning of that.
Now, returning to the proposal. We walked over to Stokers where I was very cold so we went and sat inside and had some tea :D:D Then he wondered off and left me with a note expressing his love for me, and the wonder of our first moments as one under beside train... he returned with caramel vodka shots (which warmed us up A LOT) and then he wondered off again, this time leaving me with a note telling me to go to the train we had first kissed on, where he would be waiting. I approached the train and he helped me up onto the carriage, where his top hat sat. He told me to put it on, so I did. Underneath it was a little white box, which he picked up as he took my hand. He then proceeded to go down on one knee and before he could even finish his sentence, I was already answering with a never-been-more-sure-about-anything-in-my-life-before yes :D

It was with that, that we promised our lives together and became one <3 nbsp="">

Well, we took a train into Cape Town. There's something so romantic about a train ride, I absolutely LOVE going on the train. The best part is that the rails go past all of the farms and you get to see lots of animals :D

So we got into Cape Town and headed towards the Waterfront where Brandt and I both got some really nice new boots/shoes (#treatyoself :P). After that, we wondered around the waterfront as we so love to do. Theeeen we went to the most incredible little Japanese restaurant, Haiku. Very expensive, but VERY good!
We had a very nice varied meal. We ordered lots of things to try and shared them between us. It was a very expensive meal, but absolutely worth it, especially for a second engagement :D Here is what we had:
Alles Verloren Shiraz: Alles Verloren is not a wine that you can really go wrong with.
Calamari Nigiri
Prawn Nigiri (Just saying, every single item on this list was FRESH. I felt like I was a seal having an amazing feast. It was definitely worth it- the kind of sushi that makes you want to cry it's so good!)
Salmon Roses
Tuna Crunch
Prawn Wonton
Salt and Pepper Calamari : This was my favourite item. It was so moist, so fresh and *SO* delicious.
Vegetable Fried Noodles
After this, we had the plum saki... It was really, really good. We combined it with our desserts. Mine was the cheesecake and Brandt had 2 scoops of mango ice cream and 2 scoops of green tea ice cream. All of the dessert was AMAZING, the best cheesecake I've ever had.

The cheesiest green screen photo EVER :D
Then we wandered around a little bit and then went on the Cape Wheel :D If you've never gone on it before, I know it's expensive but I really think that it's worth it. It was so much fun and the views are amazing. Although, the absolute best part was when Brandt pointed towards his top hat placed on the bench across from us (see the link to the first proposal? ^^) and told me to pick it up. I did so, and underneath was the ring box. Then, he went down on one knee... He's magically romantic, is he not? :D We spent most of the rest of the ride kissing like teenagers which was absolutely beautiful. Afterwards the sun was starting to go down. We wandered a bit more along the promenade and Brandt got me a balloon dog :D After that we got a cab and went home. It was such a magical day <3 p="">

Things Everyone Should Have on Their Bucket List

Things Everyone Should Have on Their Bucket List....
That are rather relevant to my life at this point in time!

Make what you love your life

This is something that I've been trying to do for a while now with my little Crafty Fox business. It's something that'll take time but I really hope that I can generate enough income to at least sustain creativity as a part time job in the future :)

Make yourself aware

One of my favourite things to do is go to animal sanctuaries and welfares. I love volunteering to walk dogs and play with them and all of that, but it's a good idea to expand ones circle of awareness and take a trip to one of the much sadder places to visit. Yesterday I went to the Drakenstein Lion Park- wow, that was sad. You see all of these beautiful animals who have been rescued, and some who had never seen the outdoors before they were rescued. Many people find it difficult to listen to the stories of neglect and abuse, but I think it's a really good thing to do. When you learn more about what animals have been through, you don't only learn more about them but also about humans, which can be a very difficult thing to do.

As far as being aware goes, this shouldn't be limited to just animals, but also human suffering. I'll admit that I care a lot more about animals than I do humans, but it's important to make sure that you don't just focus on one aspect of the world and reject the rest of it. I'm a nerd when it comes to museums, I absolutely LOVE them! I've been to many of the South African museums, and the one that interested me the most was the Durban Holocaust Center. Although I admit I had to step out of the room for a few minutes due to feeling incredibly dizzy (some of the displays really do get to you), I found the center to be so informative and interesting.

Take a selfie with an animal you've always loved

So... The selfie craze! Yes, to some it may seem ridiculous. However, yesterday (for the first time) I got to see a llama, which is an animal I've ALWAYS loved. I don't know what it is about them (probably how ugly they are) but I find them to be the most adorable creatures. Next on my list? A fox <3 nbsp="" p="">

Accept a huge opportunity

... More news on this one coming soooon :P:D I can't give away anything too soon ^.^

Clean up a beach

This is something that I've done a couple of times, but yesterday I took a trip to Gordon's Bay and was on the beach with a friend cleaning up things. It's disgusting how badly people treat our environment. It makes me really sad and a little ashamed to call myself human. Apart from doing nature a big favour, cleaning up the beach is an awesome opportunity to find really cool things. For example, yesterday DandyLion found scraps of a dutch novel that looked like a murder mystery story! So fascinating!

I haven't done one of these in a while..

So, I haven't done one of these in a very long time! I thought I'd go back to one I did a few years ago and take it again :)

I met Nelson Mandela. I was really young and he picked me up and asked me what I wanted to be. I responded with "A spice girl" and he responded: "Oh, a pilot!"

Not really, it's an Engineering lab.

Nope, but I'm getting one. I've been wanting it for a year and a half and it's something that's very personal to me. I'm very careful when it comes to tattoos and things that are permanent. I won't get something done if I'm going to regret it.

Yes. Years ago though and I can't remember if it was any good.

47. Is your hair curly?
When I curl it :P

48. What was the last CD you bought?

Yeah, but only if they're combined with personality. There's no point in being good looking if I can't have a conversation with you or you can't make me laugh.

50. Could you ever forgive a cheater?
It depends on the situation... who and what was involved pretty much

51. Is your phone bill sky high?

57. How often do you talk on the phone?
Only when my mom calls :D

64. What was the most recent thing you bought?
One. Single. Banana. I had only a few coins and was hungry :P

Many times! The most memorable being a time when my art teacher (who was a bitch) promised she'd be at school early to let us in to the art room to finish our Matric final projects and she didn't arrive... So we all broke in to the art room.

Pattern and Tutorial Party! The Best Free Online Patterns and Tutorials :)

Hey guys! It's been a busy day or so and as I've become more and more full of the flu, I become more and more inspired! If you haven't joined CRAFTSY yet, now is the time to do it as all of the links in this post come from there! I thought I'd share some of my favourite free online patterns with you. I haven't gotten around to making them all, but I promise that in time I will!

So, let's get started!

In love yet? I thought so. Proceed with caution- you won't leave this post uninspired.

Sewing: Crafter's Apron Pattern

Does anyone know where you can get fabric like this? It's absolutely stunning. I'd love to make myself one of these, I do definitely need one. Brandt will be glad that I no longer use the rug as a pin cushion!

Free Girly Fox Applique Pattern

A free fox applique? Super awesome.

Sewing: Scarf with Claw Mittens

I really like this idea, the best part is that you can exchange the claws for pretty much anything you want!

Sewing: CabĂ´tin Tote bag

Shirt Skirt

Yes, you really do make this out of a shirt! I'm definitely going to head off to hospice sometime in the next week or so- the bigger the shirt, the better!

Thanks for reading my post! I hope it helped you in some way, even if it just inspired you!

A Quick Update

Wow, it feels like forever since I last updated my blog or even my Facebook page! It's been a very busy week- I've done a few creative things but my camera seems to be stuffed so I haven't been able to post anything. I'll find a way to fix it, it's just been faaar too busy this week.

I thought I'd let you guys know what I've been up to, since I've been so quiet this week!

So, firstly, I found an online course about a month ago that I am SUPER interested in. It doesn't take up much time in the week, but it definitely has taken a bit of time. It's on animal welfare and behaviour, and is really interesting. I want to possibly one day work in the field of animal welfare, owning a welfare or something like that. I'm super clueless about my future, so on top of my degree I've been doing everything possible to improve myself and become as qualified as possible.

Coursera Animal Behaviour and Welfare
Secondly, I've discovered the most amazing website! I know that everyone in the crafting community seems to have discovered it ages before me, but I've only found it now and I'm super obsessed. Because I've been spending so much time getting to know my new sewing machine, I've been looking for easy patterns to try. Craftsy is the most amazing resource- so if you're a sewing person, check it out!

(Can I just take this moment to say how adorable my fiance is?! He's fast asleep next to me, it's been a crazy week, and he twitches occasionally :B)

(... I started this blog post this morning and am finishing it now, the end of a long day of working!)

So, it's time to head home from the faculty and do some cooking. I'm thinking a nice red curry... I find curries to be so easy and so delicious.

Have an awesome week, everyone! I promise to update more regularly now!
